HFC-236fa (1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoropropane, CAS 690-39-1), also known as FE-36, is a clean fire extinguishing agent with zero ozone depletion potential. It is a colorless liquefied gas with a low extinguishing concentration of 6.3 % and a high NOAEL of 10 %, giving a comfortable safety margin for use where people are present.
HFC-236fa is non-conductive and leaves no residue, so it is used in portable extinguishers and fixed systems that protect electronics, aircraft, vehicles and other sensitive equipment.
